Visit to Korea Institute of Fusion Energy (KFE)

di-Lab visited the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy (KFE) on Tuesday, September 30. This field trip was part of the field trip lecture for the course <Survey on Science, Technology, and Public Policy> taught by Professor Kyung-Ryul Park.

The students toured the control room, analysis room, and interior of the nuclear fusion research device (K-STAR: Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) within the institute. They discussed the science and technology policy implications of national big and public science infrastructure. The visit was particularly meaningful as Vice President Yoon Si-woo kindly accompanied the group, explaining the institute's current status and research achievements.

di-Lab은 지난 9월 30일 (화) 한국핵융합연구원을 방문하였습니다. 이번 견학은 박경렬 교수님이 담당하시는 <과학기술과 공공정책 통론> 교과목 강의 현장 답사의 일환으로, 수강생 십여 명도 함께 참석했습니다.

학생들은 연구원 내 초전도 핵융합연구장치 (K-STAR) 제어실 및 분석실, 장치 내부 등을 둘러보며 국가 거대공공과학 인프라가 갖는 과학기술정책적 함의를 고민했습니다. 연구원 윤시우 부원장님께서 직접 답사에 동행하여 기관 현황 및 연구 성과 등을 설명해주셔서 더욱 뜻깊은 시간이었습니다.
