"Science Diplomacy In an Era of Disruption: opportunities and challenges" Symposium

di-Lab attended the symposium “Science Science Diplomacy In an Era of Disruption: opportunities and challenges” held in Seoul on Thursday, October 2. This event was hosted by the British Embassy Seoul, with support from the UK Science and Technology Network, The Royal Society, and the Birkbeck Science Diplomacy Initiative. Participants reexamined the role of science and technology diplomacy in an era of intensifying technological hegemony competition and geopolitical conflicts, discussing key challenges and potential cooperation opportunities for Korea and the UK.

Notably, Professor Kyung-Ryul Park delivered a presentation titled “Beyond Competition: Can AI Redefine the Future of Diplomatic Cooperation?” during the session on “Cooperation and Competition in Advanced Technology and AI.” He addressed the shifting landscape of science and technology diplomacy in the age of artificial intelligence. In the following panel discussion, he discussed the fields and directions of international collaboration in science and technology.

di-Lab은 지난 10월 2일 (목) 서울에서 열린 "Science Diplomacy In an Era of Disruption: opportunities and challenges" 심포지움에 참석했습니다. 이번 행사는 영국 과학기술 네트워크(UK Science and Technology Network), 영국왕립학회(The Royal Society), 버크벡 과학기술외교 이니셔티브(Birckbeck Science Diplomacy Initiative)의 후원으로 주한영국대사관에서 주최하였습니다. 참석자들은 기술 패권 경쟁과 지정학적 갈등이 심화하는 시대 속에서 과학기술외교의 역할을 재조명하고, 한국과 영국이 직면한 주요 과제와 협력 가능성을 함께 논의했습니다.

특별히, 박경렬 교수님은 "첨단 기술 및 AI 분야의 협력과 경쟁"을 주제로 한 세션에서 "경쟁을 넘어 : AI는 외교협력의 미래를 재정의 할 수 있을까?"라는 제하의 발제를 맡아 인공지능 시대 과학기술외교의 지형 변화에 대해 발표하고, 이어진 패널 토론에서 과학기술 국제협력의 분야와 방향에 대해 이야기하였습니다.
